Project Mini Yearbook

Yearbook Reflection Project:

In this project we had to assign a ton of different tasks and jobs distributed by 4 major job categories. One person was the head manager/ chief editor; the second person was the editor. Third was the Photographer and finally the graphic designer. This was just like the newspaper project that we were given only this time I was not the chief editor. Instead I was the editor and made decisions of what to put in the yearbook. Some things we as a group were trying to create were the portraits, Everyone flips to the portrait section of the yearbook to see themselves and their friends. Faculty, staff, and administration should all be included, too, and it’s always a great idea to give your graduating class star treatment. Also we were originally going to bring athletics in as well big sections of middle school and high school yearbooks end up devoted to sports. The coolest spreads we’ve seen included in those yearbooks have a magazine-like quality in their design and tell stories that give readers a fresh perspective on a particular sports’ season, like pre-game rituals, in-huddle pep talks, and post-season celebrations. Finally a section with ads or popular movie selection of 2016. Maybe it goes without saying, but if you’re going to include ads in your yearbook, they deserve their own section. It doesn’t matter if they’re from local businesses or proud parents, they’re pieces of the book that fall outside the story of your school year and your readers should know that. A nice section break before you turn the pages over to your sponsors should do the trick. There ended up with 16 spreads plus in our original plan but things went south instead and we barely had 16 at all.

The major problem was again deadlines. Deadlines are always more closer than they appear!  Yet again we seem to be missing quite a few items in our newspaper as well.  Although these hardships were difficult to get over they are very important, in school, there were consequences for missing deadlines on papers and there were rewards for doing a good work by getting higher grades. Give yourself deadlines with consequences and rewards. Although we didn’t get actual rewards, our final rewards can be considered as our grades we get for the projects. If we do end up slacking off it is up to you and someone you trust to keep you on track. Responsibility of a group! The media we used was combination of Photoshop and InDesign. I mainly use Photoshop because I am most comfortable with it, InDesign was a headache for me because I barely knew how to operate it. Eventually I figured it out and I became comfortable with more settings now than before.
