Project Newspaper Self Reflection
Self-Reflection:
One obstacle was the deadline, the
deadline was very close for us and we barely had time to hand in anything, we
were missing quite a few items in our newspaper as well. Although these hardships were difficult to
get over they are very important, in school, there were consequences for
missing deadlines on papers and there were rewards for doing a good work by
getting higher grades. Give yourself deadlines with consequences and rewards.
For example, if you achieve your deadline, you will celebrate by doing
something fun or buying something you’ve been wanting. If you miss your
deadline, you’re not allowed to do something you enjoy. All in all one very big
take away from all of this is that you must meet deadlines, they are there for
a reason, and we don’t want to procrastinate. If we do end up slacking off it
is up to you and someone you trust to keep you on track. Responsibility of a
group!
In this project we had to assign a
ton of different tasks and jobs distributed by 4 major job categories. One
person was the head manager/ chief editor; the second person was the editor.
Third was the Photographer and finally the graphic designer. I happened to be
the chief editor and part of my job description was to manage all the
day-to-day operations of a publication, such as a newspaper, magazine, trade
publication, or academic journal. The editor-in-chief oversees all of the
assistant, or department, editors of a publication and ensures each issue is
released on time. Most editors-in-chief worked up to this top position by
starting out as writers, then working as assistant or managing editors. The
editor-in-chief is responsible for hiring but in my case I assigned the
positions, especially of the assistant editors. With the assistant editors, the
editor-in-chief creates the editorial board, or outline, for each of the
publication's editions or issues. The editor-in-chief reviews all articles and
photographs for accuracy as well as potential libel or slander, and provides
suggestions, if needed, about any changes to make before the publication goes
to press or is released digitally. Layouts and design need approval by the
editor-in-chief. In the end, the editor-in-chief has the final word about which
stories and photos get published!
