Homework #2
My name is Thawsif Mursalin and I was born in Detroit,
Michigan on June 27 of the year 2000. I spent half of my life in Michigan which
is about 7 years if you count that I am 15 currently. During those 7 years it
was tough for me especially for my parents since they were immigrants coming
from a small country called, Bangladesh. My parents came to America hoping for
a better education for me and the rest of my family. So in 1991 they came to
America, they were the first in their families to do so, which put a greater
strain on them. Growing up I had no idea how to speak English as well as some
of my classmates did, I didn’t know how to spell that great ether, and
basically didn’t even know grammar
existed. The only subject I truly exceled in was math because it was universal
and my parents were able to teach me that.
The majority of the class had parents that were born and raised in
America and being a child of 2 immigrants was a challenge I had to overcome one
way or another. After those days of struggling to get on task everything became
a bit easier and my parents were already learning a lot of English from trust
worthy reliable friends. A few years later I was introduced to new fields and
subjects. I was exposed to science. As a kid science captivated me the moment I
learned about it in school. Soon my curiosity developed within science. I
wanted to know how and why things acted the way they did. I read many
non-fictional texts and expanded my knowledge. After 7 years my parents decided
to move to New York, they said bye to their friends as did I. New York was a
totally different world all together. The people acted differently and most
seemed to be much nicer than the ones in Michigan. The teachers there were
phenomenal and I felt like I was able to absorb more in New York. When our economy
grew stable I was introduced to a computer at the age of 9 or 10. At first I
had no idea how to operate it but soon I got the hang of it and never
questioned how it was made until I did. Again my fascination could not be
contained and I questioned how it worked and observed carefully what each
component did. Then I came across software. During the age of 13 to 14 I wanted
to know more about software and coding by looking towards schools that offered
classes in these fields. Finally I stumbled across Information Technology High
School where I am going to school currently in hopes of being involved in
science and technology.

The reason I wanted to join web design academy is because I
am interested in software and coding. I am also thinking of having a career in
the field of software and coding. As a young child growing up, curiosity always
got the better of me because I always questioned how something worked
especially if it was related to science. As I got older I became more
interested in technology. Soon enough I found myself learning about coding, to
add on I began to study program languages, starting with Lua, JavaScript and
making my way towards HTML. The professions I am still heavily considering
related to software and coding are graphic designing, web designing, video game
designing, or a major software developer/software engineer. I feel that the Information Technology High
School’s CTE program of Web Design will help me reach that objective as far as
I am willing to go through with it. Why I feel that I am a good candidate for
this class is because I have had previous experience with how to code and I am
very optimistic in terms of looking towards the future in this class. I am sure
that there will be an abundance of work ahead of me however I believe that
struggle will eventually lead to success.
The summer of 2015 was amazing, and I have not experienced
anything like it before. I love to learn about new things and prior to this
summer I joined a great program called SEO (Sponsors for Educational
Opportunity). It is an 8 year program free of charge that I was fortunate
enough to apply and be accepted to. They had mandatory summer academy for all
their students. At first hearing this almost broke me, it got me furious; I
started to question is this really worth it? Do they really expect it to be
mandatory? Am I wasting my time with this program? Should I quit? All of that nonsense
came to a jolting halt, just after the first week of the academy. I loved it
there because the teachers were so calm and collective and the students were so
full of energy hungry to learn. They had multiple subjects math, grammar,
critical reading, critical writing, and vocabulary. I was learning 5 days a
week for about 8 hours starting from the morning, but honestly speaking it felt
more like a mere 2 hours. When the summer academy was coming to a conclusion
there was one more surprise. The last week of summer academy at SEO was
dedicated to software and coding. For me this was a dream come true. I said to
myself there is no way this could be happening but in fact it was! That week
was the most insightful for me out of all the others I learned a thing or two
about programming and I even learned a programming language JavaScript and I am
currently learning HTML. All in all this summer was the most useful summer for
me yet and I look forward to what the future has to offer me next!
